The First Twenty is a non profit dedicated to improving the health of the American firefighter. Our mission is to decrease Line of Duty Deaths due to heart attack in today's fire service.
Guidance: Our Board
Our Board of Directors has over 200 years of experience in the fire service, and averages over 18 years per member. Board Members include career and volunteer firefighters, line officers, safety officers, fire chiefs and the former manager of all Department of Defense Fire and Emergency Services training, education, and certification programs. This gives The First Twenty a unique insight into the fire service and the firefighter. Our program is by firefighters for firefighters.

- Designing fitness, wellness, and educational programs based on the most up-to-date research
- Creating data systems and bringing together key stakeholders which can contribute to future research on firefighter health and fitness
- Working with universities and hospitals on developing research to make advances in firefighter wellness
History: 300 Years
The fire service has a storied tradition, spanning over 300 years in the United States. It is comprised of men and women, young and old, who have thrived on the principles of courage, tradition, teamwork, service and community. Today's fire service is over one million strong, and over 800,000 of those firefighters are volunteers who answer the call to serve their communities. Whether firefighters are paid or volunteer, they put themselves tbetween us and danger to protect our families, homes and communities.
